Among Familiar Faces (WIP Photo, 2015) - Visual Art Major Work
This is my year 12 major work for visual arts. This was my attempt to look into a certain different aspect of society which is often alluded at but ignored. I wanted to capture the way every individual have different faces which they show to others as a social mask. This was inspired by a phone call to suicide watch by a close friend of mine, and it portrays how each piece contains a sense of normalcy with her faces, but each shows hints to the bigger picture, which is a crying face. The idea of visual illusion always interested me, and this helped me to show how depression and social anxiety can often be overlooked by others.
The House on the Cliff by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos (2012)
I saw this house when I was researching different structures for my Engineering Studies course in high school. It's a cliff house and it fascinated me, because the structure is minimalist and very modern, but it blends into its surrounding subtly. It stands out visually yet doesn't stand out at all, that idea is very fascinating. It utilizes very soft use of lights and develops a sense of calm and cool feel for a home, not only having amazing aesthetics with its light effects and form during the night, but also stylistically beautiful during the day. The idea of being a cliff house is another thing that makes me love the architecture. It overhangs instead of stands upon its site, making the experience of being inside it different to looking up at the structure but looking down and moving down to experience the spaces below.

Contrast and use of light in this photo makes me really appreciate this photo. This was taken within a casual fashion shoot. I really like the contrasting tones and the way dark and light is played with within the photo. I did not planned to take this photo, it was a spontaneous pose made by the model, and the spontaneity captivated me.
